Witch Skulls re-envisioned

With the discovery of the green flame torch kits, I’ve been re-envisioning the witch skulls.

So, taking advantage of the fact that green flame gives off very little visible light, we’re planning to use the green flame in the blacklight area. I wanted a minimum of 5 torches, which means 5 skulls. We tried a new way of staining the plaster skulls with a foam stain, which worked wonders.

Then, a little fluorescing paint later, they really came to life.

A little summer time carving as well, in celebration of sign 3.0. But, a little more on that later.

Now…what to do with the base….

So, the Stele have been coming along just fine.

Oh, sure, there was a little problem with the cat breaking the lower jaws off…but, I’ll get to re-attaching those later.

Sunday, I was able to procure a couple of bar stools.

These serve a triple purpose.

First, they give us some height to the Stele, so I do not need worry about stray costumes getting into the fire.
Second, they are a skeletal frame for said base, which will allow me to get creative with the base…
Third, saved me from having to build my own.

So, as you can see, they Stele have been attached to the top of the stools, which allowed me to remove the firebowls and remove all form material that was clogging up the heads. Should be able to wire them for lighting now.

Now it’s time to start on the bases (and the lower jaw).

Currently, the leading thought is to have it be a pile of skulls…But, I’m still toying with the idea at the moment.

Speaking of skulls. Talia is most fond of her new nightshirt.

Incan Steve

Steve 2 is well underway now.

I’ve been less than completely sold on the skull. I had wanted to make sure it was DIFFERENT from the original Steve, as the last thing I need is a number of identical faces. So, we tried our hand at free-sculpting one. Much like the last skull I sculpted, it was looking a little simian.

But, with the lower jaw set in place, I found it to look quite Incan. Which, is rather fitting.

So, it was time to add some skin again.

The legs are not getting skinned on this one as they will be completely covered with wrapping once he’s done.

The creepy grin just kinda happened…

Hand…

I’ve decided I really need to go buy me a blacklight flashlight to take with me when doing my fabric shopping. I want 2 different glows from fabric on this. I just don’t see the flashlight happening quickly, so gotta be guesstimating. Might do some tests at home…

Grin and bear it.

I stumbled on something the other day.

Somehow my daughter had gotten ahold of some aquarium gravel.

Of course, she currently thinks ROCKS are the most amazing things in the world to begin with…

Anyhow, on confiscating it, I was surprised to see just how much like a tooth it actually looked…

Hey, this could be useful.

Dirt cheap, that gravel. And look, a set of choppers.

Bob’s dentist still sucks, though.

My Bob there has racked up to be just under $20 in construction…Or…you could buy one of THESE for $60…

I’ll take Bob…

Hands are crawling around everywhere now.

Made watching “And now the screaming starts” all the more hilarious this weekend.

UEN Rocks!

Not only did they send us a gift, but they included a personal note, and one for each of the boys as well.

The boys were both thrilled.

The Witch’s skull is coming along slowly.

This weather is not quite as warm as I’m used to for making molds, so it’s taking a bit longer than normal. HOPEFULL that we’ll have a finished mold by next weekend, and get a prototype out to mutilate into something of a final form.
